1) Senior Stock Horse Race over 18 years $5
Open to all riders over the age of 18 years

2) Junior Stock Horse Race 12-17 years $5
Open to all riders between 12-17 years

3) Lead Rein Stock Horse Race under 12 years $5
Open to all riders under 12 years and on lead rein

4) Senior Stock Horse Race over 18 years – Championship Race 1st Leg

“Approximately 1km kilometres in length.  Course over undulating terrain with logs and water to be jumped.  Competitors start unmounted. On starting they run, leading horse approximately 10 metres to full length coat, put it on, mount and race over course to simulated calves.  They dismount, pick up calf, mount and continue the race. Approx half way around the calf is to be placed in the designated area.  Prior to completing the race the rider must dismount in the designated area, remove coat and complete the race leading their horse. Each competitor is individually timed. A time limit for the race will apply, to be advised on the day of the event”


6) Senior Walking Race over 18 years $5
Open to all riders over the age of 18 years

For riders 18 years and over. To be held over a course of approximately 1 km of undulating terrain. Rules: If the horse breaks, a circle must be turned, and a walk re-established.

7) Junior Walking Race 12-17 years  $5
Open to all riders between 12-17 years
Rules as per Event 6.

8)    Lead Rein Walking Race under 12 years  $5
Open to all riders under 12 years and on lead rein
Rules as per Event 6.


9)    Relay Teams (all riders over the age 10)  $20 per team

Teams of three horses and four riders. Event to be run as a relay over 4 legs. All riders to be over the age of ten years. Riders & horses may compete in 1 team only. Team name only to be submitted at the time of entry. Course to be advised.

 10)  Senior Handy Stock Horse over 18 years   $5
Open to all riders over the age of 18 years

11)  Junior Handy Stock Horse under 18 years $5
Open to all riders between 9-17 years

For riders under 18 years on the day of the event. Time limit of five (5) minutes to apply

12)  Lead Rein Handy Horse 8 years and under   $5
Open to all riders 8 years & under and on lead rein

For riders 8 years and under. Children navigate modified course on leading rein. Time limit will apply. Entrants cannot compete in leading rein if they are also competing in the junior handy stock horse or if they have competed as a junior in previous years

 18)  Senior Billy Can Race over 18 years  $5
Open to all riders over 18 years

Course & Rules at judge’s direction. First home with the most water in the bucket wins

Open to all riders between 12-17 years

 21)  Novice Stockman’s Whipcrack  $10

For entrants who have never won a stockman’s whipcrack event. To be run on horseback over a horse‐shoe shaped course with a maximum of 12 papers to be cut.  Riders to ride at any pace on inside of targets only.  Targets are to be placed on a course at intervals at the discretion of the steward & judges.  This will be a timed event. Points awarded for cut papers within the time limit. One horse one run.  Entrants can compete on more than one horse.

22)  Stockman’s Whipcrack   $10

To be conducted on same lines as event 20, except entrants must canter around the course.


23)  FREESTYLE WHIPCRACK – OPEN Best Performance (horse optional). Time limit 2 minutes $5

24)  FREESTYLE WHIPCRACK 10 years & under. Best Performance, time limit 30 seconds  $5

25)  FREESTYLE WHIPCRACK  11 to 15 years. Best Performance, time limit 30 seconds $5

26)  FREESTYLE WHIPCRACK 16 years to 18 years. Best Performance, time limit 30 seconds $5

27)  FREESTYLE WHIPCRACK Over 18 years Best Performance, time limit 30 seconds $5

28)  CATTLE WORKING SHOOT OUT CHALLENGE    - CHAMPIONSHIP 3RD LEG

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY FOR EVENTS

1. Entrants competing in Championship, Stock Horse Races and Teams Relay will be issued a wrist band on completion of course walk. >> NO WRISTBAND, NO START

2. Equestrian helmets compulsory in all events (except whip cracking). >> NO HELMET, NO START

3. No halters or headstalls to be used in races as the main horse control

4. One run per horse each event, excluding the barrel & billy can races

5. The Smithton Rodeo Committee reserves the right to alter the program

7. The decision of the Judge or Judges will be final

8. Abusive behaviour either to person or horse & offensive language will result in disqualification of the days events

9. Queries can be directed to Smithton Rodeo President Alyssia Coates.

10. The Smithton Rodeo In does not assume liability for accident resulting in death or injury to competitors or their property, each contestant by act of entry or participation waives all claims for death, injury, loss or damage that they, their helpers, their stock or property may sustain.

11. Horses may be requested at the discretion of the Smithton Rodeo Committee to be paraded in front of a vet.

PLEASE NOTE A MINIMUM OF 3 COMPETITORS PER CLASS OR CLASSES MAYBE COMBINED OR CANCELLED.
